They negotiated labor contracts, established local communities, and, following the 1867 Reconstruction Acts, entered local, state, and national politics. Though aided by Freedmen's Bureau agents and sympathetic whites, former slaves nevertheless faced daunting odds. Ku Klux Klansmen and others terrorized blacks who asserted themselves, many northerners lost interest in their plight, and federal officials gradually left them to their own resources. As a result, former Confederates regained control of the southern state governments following the 1876 presidential election. We Ask Only for Even-Handed Justice is a substantially revised and expanded edition of a book originally published under the title Black Voices from Reconstruction, 1865–1877.

"I Am Ari" Volume 2 is about the main character, Ari, getting a continuous glucose monitor. At first Ari is afraid and doesn't want to give the CGM a chance, but after a bit of persuasion she decides to try it out for a few days before she makes any decision, after giving the device a chance she ends up loving it, she loves that she doesn't have to poke her fingers as often and that she doesn't have to stop as often while doing things she enjoys.This book is a great tool to introduce continuous glucose monitoring with elementary aged children, especially those who are interested in getting a CGM but still have some fears about the devices. There are several pictures of a Ari throughout the book to help kids realize they are not alone dealing with this disease, and the book is written in the prospective of Ari, which should also make it easier for children to connect to the main character in that aspect as well. I hope that this book helps the Type 1 child in your life and that they enjoy it, my main goal is to help others living with this disease, especially children.
